Massachusetts Gateway Cities
The Fall 2025 RFP for Holyoke and New Bedford is now CLOSED.
Applications were due on Friday September 12th. Thank you to all who submitted!
MFF’s Gateway Cities program aims to invest deeply in several Gateway Cities with the goal of supporting on the ground projects as well as priority shifts to the policy and resource allocation landscape to ensure lasting change around the issues of climate, health equity, transportation, housing and civic engagement. MFF will support community driven projects, build collaborative networks and effective coalitions amongst diverse stakeholders, increase civic engagement amongst residents, and build overall capacity to leverage resources, programs and policy changes that will affect those most impacted by climate change, lack of housing, adequate transportation and the resulting health inequities.
After considerable consultation and feedback from the Holyoke and New Bedford communities, MFF launched our first RFP in July 2025. Proposal review and site visits are now underway. Final decisions will be made by our trustees at our November 8th board meeting. MFF will be awarding at least $450,000 to nonprofit organizations in each city (~$900,000 total).
In the coming months, MFF will be making decisions about future RFPs. Please check this page again in 2026.
